A twisted form of love might be in the air as Joker 2 director Todd Philips recently revealed new looks at Joaquin Phoenix‘s Joker and Lady Gaga‘s Harley Quinn in the upcoming character-driven musical thriller.
On his Instagram, Philips posted three new images featuring the iconic villainous duo in some specially designed set pieces.
The first one features Phoenix all dressed up in his fashionable Joker wear with Lady Gaga wearing some Harley Quinn-inspired makeup with lighting that makes the two look like a tilted heart.
The second image showcases Harley Quinn’s ever-blossoming closeness to Joker, being the launching point of the two’s relationship presumably during the Joker’s time in Arkham State Hospital.
However, the last image seems to showcase Philips’ decision to incorporate musical elements as Phoenix and Gaga waltz on a Broadway-inspired set of a Gotham City rooftop.
Since Joker 2 is a musical, it’ll be interesting to see how these scenes will develop and influence the film’s larger story given Joker’s previous romance with Zazie Beetz’s Sophie Dumond in the first film.
With Beetz’s return, Sophie could serve as the moral compass that Joker once had while Harley drives him closer to madness.

Todd Philips’ Joker: Folie à Deux is set to continue the tragic story of Arthur “Joker” Fleck (Phoenix) after being arrested for killing late-night host Murray Franklin (Robert De Niro) in the first film.
However, fans speculate that with Harley Quinn being thrown in the mix, the two will ultimately succumb to a bad romance that continues to bring the duo into deeply emotional insanity.
Rounding out the main cast of Joker 2 includes Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, Jacob Lofland, Steve Coogan, Ken Leung and Harry Lawtey.
Joker: Folie à Deux releases in theatres on October 4.
